Product description

This decorative and practical Viking ear spoon is based on a historical find from Gotland, featuring a similar design. Cast from high-quality bronze.

The original model dates back to the 8th-9th century and features a bearded face with two ravens, likely representing Odin, the father of the gods. Ear spoons were commonly used in Viking women's attire, often alongside tweezers and prickers, and were an essential part of their grooming kit. These items were discovered in many Viking settlements.

The ear spoon was typically attached to a long chain or leather strap on oval brooches, hanging at belt level for easy access. The spoon measures 7 x 1 cm. Small thorns, awls, and fine bronze tweezers were used for personal hygiene since the Bronze Age and were even part of medical tools in Egypt and Rome. These items were also widespread among Germanic and Viking peoples for maintaining hygiene and beauty.
