Product description
The Agnus Dei badge is based on a medieval pilgrimage badge from France, now housed in the Czech National Museum in Prague. The term Agnus Dei translates to "Lamb of God" in Latin and is a widely recognized symbol of Jesus Christ in Christianity. Representing the paschal lamb with the flag of victory, it signifies the resurrection of Christ and is a common motif in Christian art and heraldry.
This medieval replica measures 4 x 3 cm and includes a sturdy pin on the back for easy attachment to clothing. It is available in silver-plated bronze.
Pilgrimage badges have been popular since the 12th century, with each pilgrimage site offering its own unique design. Made from materials like lead, pewter, or precious metals, these badges symbolized the promise of salvation tied to the visited site. Pilgrims proudly displayed them on their bags, hats, or clothing as a testament to their journey and devotion, while also enjoying support and protection during their travels. These badges not only spread awareness of holy sites but also generated significant revenue for the Church.
