This Battle-Ready Viking shield is painted with a characteristic symbol. The shield is depicted on a rune stone in Gotland in Stenkyrka (Lillbjärs III). The stone dates from the 9th-10th century AD. Symbolism as it can be seen in various Viking jewelry. In addition, Gotland is known for its 5th-6th century stones with sun motifs. That is why we think that the sign on this shield is a further development of this tradition. Viking shields like this one were used all over the Viking world. This Battle-Ready Viking shield has a steel reinforcement on the outer edge. This type of shield boss was worn all over the Viking world between the 9th and 11th century. On the inside, behind the shield boss, a handle is mounted with which it can be easily held.
