Product description
This beautiful Viking shield is made of approximately 13 mm thick plywood, covered with linen, and extensively decorated with so-called triquetras (also called triquetras - trefoil or Trinity nodes) and ravens. The bird couple is a depiction of Odin's two messengers Hugin and Munin (or Huginn and Muninn), which are a recurring motif in Celtic and Viking art. In Norse mythology, ravens fly over Asgard and Midgard and return in the evening to the father of the gods (also called Hrafnass, the "Raven God") to tell him everything they have seen and heard. An umbo is mounted in the center of the shield, securely attached with four rivets. The back of the shield is painted black and has a sturdy wooden handle. Although this wooden shield is a bit too light and thin for full contact sword fighting, it remains a great accessory for reenactment, LARP, stage or television/film. Moreover, it is also a beautiful collection or exhibition piece and a decorative object for all lovers of history and the Celts.
