Aventails like this were worn all over Europe during the 15th and 16th century. In the 16th century it was immensely popular among the German Landsknecht and the Scottish and Irish Galloglass. This type of aventail is also called Bishop’s Mantle. It has leather straps with replica buckles. The lower side of the collar is made of brass chainmail. This aventail is made of butted rings 1:4.
