Product description

A pike is a long pole weapon, primarily designed for thrusting, and was widely used by infantry. Unlike many other similar weapons, the pike was not meant to be thrown. It was a common weapon in European warfare from the early Middle Ages until around 1700. The pike was especially prominent in the armies of the Landsknechts and Swiss mercenaries, who used it as their primary weapon in pike square formations. Typically, a spear becomes a pike when its length makes it impractical to wield with one hand.

Pikemen also needed to carry a shorter weapon like a sword, mace, or dagger for self-defense in case the battle turned into close-quarters combat. In most cases, they did not carry a shield or only had a small one with limited effectiveness in melee fights.

The pike was characterized by its long wooden shaft, with an iron or steel spearhead attached to the end. The exceptional length of these weapons required a strong and durable wood to maintain its structure.

If you order this weapon replica with a wooden pole, it will be delivered in parts with a ca 198cm (78ichens) long wooden pole. You will have to assemble the parts yourself. All parts including rivets are included in the delivery. All needed pins to connect up the pieces including the metal strips that run down the shaft and the leather fringes are supplied.

This item is produced in limited quantities only. This means that every piece is unique. Sizes & finish may vary lightly from piece to piece.

Prevent rust and corrosion by oiling your weapons regularly. Remove rust easily with black sandpaper. Remove burrs with a whetstone. Make sure you have removed all burrs before using a battle-ready weapon, as they can cause wounds.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.

Please note. After finishing the product yourself, the warranty and return right expire. Celtic WebMerchant is not responsible for the obtained result."
