Product description

This large medieval brooch is designed for fastening cloaks, tunics, and vests in the High Middle Ages. Inspired by the design of medieval hexagonal brooches, it is adorned with small glass inserts in alternating green and red hues. Unlike most brooches, which are typically small and used primarily for fastening necklines, this piece is much larger and suitable for securing heavier fabrics. The larger size makes it perfect for fastening a cloak or vest, rather than a shirt neckline.

The dimensions of the large hexagonal brooch are 5.5 x 5.5 cm. The brooch offers an elegant solution for medieval attire and adds a distinctive touch to any outfit. When caring for your medieval jewelry, proper cleaning and maintenance will ensure its longevity and beauty.

In the medieval period, the brooch, also known as a "Fürspann" or "Fürspange," was primarily used in the 13th and 14th centuries. The Fürspann was typically used to fasten the neckline of a "Cotte," a medieval tunic worn by both men and women. This specific design, being larger than most, reflects the transition towards more practical and decorative fastenings in the High Middle Ages.
