Product description
The bonnet was an almost indispensable article of clothing; it not only protected the wearer's hair from dirt and weather at work, but was also a sign of a woman's status. In the Middle Ages, only unmarried women were allowed to wear their hair uncovered. A married woman without a head covering was considered a "free woman".
