Weathering chainmail
If you want your chainmail to look battle worn, that’s definitely possible.
You can use pliers or wire shears to remove pieces of the chainmail around the bottom edge, to make it look “ripped” and damaged. You can also use this method to create holes in different parts of the chainmail.
Another good way to make chainmail look weathered and old is by making it rusty. An easy way to do this is by mixing water, salt and vinegar in a spray bottle and spraying this mixture on the chainmail. It will take some time before you see the effect and the longer you leave the mixture on, the more rust you will get. Also, the more vinegar you use in the mixture, the quicker and heavier the effect will be.
