Medieval pilgrim badge
The pilgrim badge was the mass product of the Middle Ages. The badges were cast in large numbers from a mold and were made of pewter. Mass production and cheap material made them affordable for the common man. People liked to wear these badges on their clothes. On pilgrimage they could buy these badges as souvenirs. Many badges have an image of a saint or a Christian theme. But there are also many secular badges such as animals, sexual badges, doctor badges and jousting badges.
