This beard comb is based on various 2nd-10th century originals. One of the originals is nowadays part of collection of the National History Museum in Berlin. Combs like this were introduced throughout the Roman Empire by Germanic auxiliae. Combs like this remained in use until well into the 10th century. This handy comb was presumably mainly used to comb the beard.
