Product description

This small Viking fibula is based on a 9th century original excavated in Smolensk. Nowadays it is part of the collection of the Historical Museum in Moscow. Trifold fibulae like this were originally first worn by the Franks as decorations on their scabbards and shields. The Vikings acquired them through plundering and adopted the tradition of these decorations. However, the Vikings used them as fibulae. These fibulae were worn by both men and women. This replica is made in the Borre style.
