This cloak is a replica of the clothing found with the Bocksten Man, dated to the 14th century. In the museum reconstruction, the Bocksten Man wears a cloak with a plain bottom, but for this replica, a cloak with slits at the bottom in the 14th-century style has been chosen. Buttons have also been added to the shoulders.
The Bocksten Man is the mummified body of a medieval man found in a peat bog in the municipality of Varberg, Sweden. It is one of the best-preserved finds from that period in Europe and is on display at the Hallands Cultural History Museum. The man was murdered and pinned to the bottom of a lake with a wooden stake, which later turned into a peat bog. The bog in which the body was found is located in Rolfstorp in Halland County, about 24 kilometers east of Varberg on the west coast of Sweden, near the main medieval road in the region: the Via Regia. In 2006, his face was reconstructed to show what he may have looked like during his life. This reconstruction is displayed alongside the original skeleton at the museum.
