Races of the LARP & fantasy world

Many races and sub-races exist in the fantasy world. To put together your costume and therefore your character, it is useful to have an overview of the most common different races. Here is a list that you can work from to choose a costume for your ideal character. When choosing a race, it is advisable to also keep in mind whether you will use make-up and body prostheses. These can be a nice addition to your character, but it requires extra skills and is sometimes difficult to to wear an event all day.

Human

Humans are the common inhabitants of most worlds. Their resourcefulness and adaptability allows them to live anywhere and everywhere. They make for keen adventurers, though they rarely live long enough to see the results of their actions.

Dwarf

Dwarves are underground-dwelling people who devote themselves to war and craftsmanship. Their toughness allows them to thrive in harsh conditions.

Elf

Elves are elegant people who have a strong connection to the feywild, a fairy-tale realm of ancient forests and strange, magical creatures.

Gnome

Gnomes are mysterious small folk with an affinity for engineering and illusionary magic. Most gnomish societies prefer to remain hidden from humans, afraid that their arcane secrets may fall in the wrong hands.

Half-Elf

Half-Elves are the children of elves and humans. They represent a rare bridge between the worlds of both these races, often finding themselves loved by- or outcast from both.

Tiefling

Tieflings are the marked descendants of those who made a pact with a devilish entity. They face prejudice and discrimination by most human societies for their fiendish appearance, and many find themselves not entirely in the adventuring life by choice.

Bugbear

Bugbears are the largest, strongest and hariest of all goblinoids, often becoming leaders of the clans and tribes of their smaller (and smoother) cousins. Most bugbear tribes value strength and senseless violence, though some are more friendly and peaceful than others.

Shifter

Shifters, also known as the weretouched, are the descendants of humans and lycanthropes with an ability to partially shift into a bestial form. For a short amount of time, they are able to draw upon their primal heritage, transforming parts of their body and enhancing their abilities.

Warforged

Warforged are constructs with a humanoid form and possessing free will through ancient magic. They were originally built as weapons of war eons ago, but now they must find their own meaning in the world.

Orc

Orcs (and Half-orcs) are savage people, heavier and larger than humans, with porcine faces and tusks. Many orc tribes value strength and ritualistic violence, praying to dark gods and often causing conflicts with other humanoid societies. Other tribes learned to live peacefully alongside humans, from which most half-orcs are descended.

Dragonborn

Dragonborn are a unique people, created by draconic gods to be their servants. As they are part humanoid and part dragon, they’re able to use their elemental breath as a weapon, just like their winged cousins.
