I myself have years of experience in re-enactment, living history and experimental archaeology. The hobby has never become boring because you keep discovering and portraying new things. Social contacts within the re-enactment are eternal and re-enactors all over the world are as close as a family. But also very accessible for people who are starting with the hobby. Here are some tips to get you started.
1, Historical period
You are going to do a lot of research and spend money on a certain period. Before you start, consider carefully whether this period / culture is what really suits you. Some reenactors are active in different historical periods.
2, Historically correct
Consider how historically correct you want to go, or whether you can lose yourself in the Re-enactment battles. Not every reenactment group is equally accurate with historical accuracy. Your group's approach should be in line with your approach.
3, Join us for a weekend
Have you found a group where you can live out your passion? Then it is smart to first participate for a few weeks. Usually you can borrow clothes and equipment.
4, Ask for a kit list
Many reenactment groups have certain wishes of what their historical clothing & accessories should look like. This, of course, has everything to do with historical accuracy. So ask for a kit list or handbook of the items they want to see.
