Product description
This kettle hat is a replica of a late 14th-early 15th century original. Kettle hats like this were worn throughout Europe between the 14th and 15th centuries. This kettle hat is a combination helmet of a sallet and kettle hat. The helmet offers optimal protection against projectiles from above due to its brim. In addition, this helmet protects the face with a visor. When there was no threat, this helmet could be slid diagonally onto the back of the head to obtain a full field of vision. Although cauldron hats usually have a wider brim, there are examples with a narrower brim, such as our cauldron helmet. A kettle hat like this is depicted in, for example, the BNF Latin 512 Speculum humanae salvationis from 1410. This helmet is approximately 28 cm high. The eye slits are approximately 7.5 cm long and 0.65 cm wide. This helmet has an inner diameter of 68cm (excluding leather lining) and will fit most head circumferences from approximately 58cm to 61cm. If you want to wear extra padding, measure your head circumference while wearing it. The padded liner already attached to the inside of the helmet is usually sufficient. The hem insert can be removed to create more space in the helmet.
